Innovation Hub

Creating Real-World Solutions for
High-Priority Needs

The Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance couples deep scientific inquiry with athletics and sports medicine in a tight cycle of innovation.
Our innovation hubs translate the Alliance's scientific discoveries into practice to help improve the training, care, and performance of athletes. Each innovation hub has a unique and complementary area of focus, with the knowledge and learnings shared by all.

Explore Our Innovation Hubs

Based at five different universities, each innovation hub leverages its expertise and athletic strengths to develop practical knowledge in areas such as female athlete performance, wearable sensors, running, and basketball.

Women's Health, Sports, & Performance Institute

Female Athlete Program

The Innovation Hub @ the Women's Health, Sports & Performance Institute focuses on conducting female-specific translational research pertaining to the physiological, mental and sociological well-being of female athletes and innovating ways to improve the health of girls and women of all abilities through athletic participation and performance.

Stanford University

Human Performance Lab

The Innovation Hub @ Stanford University focuses on advancing the use of wearable sensors and other digital technologies to optimize athlete performance and health. It applies a design-focused approach to identify needs, invent solutions, and implement prototypes that address key bottlenecks in achieving this goal.

Sports Performance And Research Center (SPARC)

The Innovation Hub @ Emory SPARC focuses on enhancing player health, performance, and injury prevention in elite athletes, from youth to professionals, through innovative models optimized from biomechanical assessments, machine learning, and real-world performance analytics with a core emphasis on expandable tools and outreach to young athletes.

University of Kansas

Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory

With top-notch women’s and men’s basketball teams, along with many other first-rate sports teams, the Innovation Hub @ University of Kansas will focus on the rapid development and deployment of new approaches for optimizing performance for basketball players and other athletes.

University of Oregon

Bowerman Sports Science Center

The Innovation Hub @ University of Oregon will focus on the development of predictive biomarkers and AI-based algorithms to improve the performance and injury recovery of track and field athletes at the developmental, elite, and masters levels.

UC San Diego

Triton Center for Performance and Injury Science

The Innovation Hub @ UC San Diego focuses on designing next-generation tools to acquire high-value tissue and cell samples from athletes, creating a repository of the resulting biospecimens, and translating discoveries from bioassay analysis to the clinic for the benefit of athletes and the public.
